Shade Variation

The Differing Degrees Between Each Tile

CTDA Color Guide

The colors and shading of each tile will vary to some degree from piece to piece and from run to run. It is recommended that several tile pieces from the same production run be examined in order to determine color shade variation. Any questions or concerns about your tile selection should be clarified prior to installation.

shade variation type 1
V1 - Uniform Appearance

Differences among pieces from the same production run are minimal.

shade variation type 2
V2 - Slight Variation

Clearly distinguishable differences in texture and/or pattern within similar colors.

shade variation type 3
V3 - Moderate Variation

While the colors present on a single piece of tile will be indicative of the colors to be expected on the other tile pieces, the amount of colors on each tile may vary significantly. For example "that little bit of color" on one piece of tile may be the primary color on the next piece.

shade variation type 4
V4 - Substantial Variation

Random color differences from tile to tile, so that one tile may have totally different colors from that of other tile pieces. Thus the final installation will be unique.
